Fresh off the plane
Just a short post on what to expect from us. Like all other caravans, we'll be heading out soon and passing through Romania, Bulgaria and Greece. With maybe the small exception of Greece, these are countries that are very difficult to understand, even for locals let alone foreigners. What is usually in the news, in media etc. often hardly scratches the surface and what we'll try with this project is to bring you the human stories, the local perspective.
The Eastern Caravan route has the unique aspect of passing through two "new" EU members - Bulgaria and Romania and one of the old core Mediterranean member - Greece.
We'll be delving into some of the major issues that the Balkans are facing like Roma rights and integration, ecological issues due to corrupt officials, LGBT rights, European politics and their reflection on the everyday lives of people. Of course aside from politics and more serious issues, we would very much like to get a better understanding of all the various and diverse people that are living in this part of the world, so you can also expect interesting details, stories and experiences we collect along the trip.
Stay tuned for more.
